This blog centers around a house rennovation.  The project has been going a long time but has entered a new phase.  It became necessary to engage a contractor to get the engineering and structural issues handled.  This is going to cost a fair amount of money est. $75,000, but it will move the project ahead considerably.  The target for completion is this fall.  That means I have a great deal of work to do in a short time.

A side note.  I suffer from pretty severe depression and have alot of trouble getting anything done lately.  I am trying new drugs (for me) and hope it helps or I will end up hiring out everything.

Hope the next few months turn out well.  We shall see.

recycling day
Ok.  Got rid of the spoiled bags of concrete, stucco, etc. that was in the way.  In doing so I found out that the place that used to take brick, concrete and asphalt no longer does so but were nice enought to let me get rid of my small number of bags.

It is getting harder and harder to find places to dispose of materials.  They are not crushing much material any more due to noise and dust complaints by the neighbors.  The local Resource I place no longer takes sheetrock, new or old, and will not take anything that is painted or stained.  The concern is mercury and other toxins.  It was particuarily suprising that they can no longer take new, unpainted, drywall scraps.

The dump is an expensive and seemingly poor place to get rid of this kind of thing but I guess that is where it will go.

Getting going
Blogging seems kinda strange for this but maybe I can use it to keep the project going.  This is a mojor restoration project and due to the csot of contracting out work, I am doing much of the rennovation.  Alot has been done but there is more to go.  Maybe someone else can benifit from my experiance.

Went to the house to start getting it ready for the crew.  Did not get as much done as needed but other commitments got in the way.  I really hate weed wacking but it was necessary.  I suppose some of the concrete can get moved today.  Laura was very helpful and got the lawn mowed and some of the brick hauled up.

Near term todos

  1. Take out the basement window.
  2. Haul the rest of the brick out of the basement.
  3. Shove the rest to the side.
  4. Haul away the concrete
  5. Start on the back yard beds
  6. Start covering the beam in the entry
  7. Prepare for plastering the livingroom

Remember to do the following

  1. Get the rest out of the kitchen
  2. Call Roxanne
  3. Plaster beam
  4. Plaster living room
  5. Prime the plaster
  6. Start working on the windows again
  7. Haul the mouldings out of the room downstairs
  8. Haul the cabinets out
  9. Build upstairs vanity
OK, enough for today,  the list is probably a hundred or so items so I will add and delete from here and keep the rest on my spread sheet.
